Specs, fire ratings & sizing.

Panel properties, fire-resistance ratings, and how we size a panel to your span. Figures are preliminary and will be confirmed at Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC) evaluation.

Sizing

Tell us the span. We’ll tell you the depth.

How far a DLT panel spans is not one number. It moves with panel depth, the load it carries, the deflection limit the project works to, whether the panel runs continuous over an intermediate support, and — on floors — whether footfall vibration governs before deflection does. A published table has to guess at all five. We would rather ask.

What sets the span

Depth

2×4 to 2×12 lamella, 89 to 286 mm. The biggest lever by a wide margin.

Load

Roof snow for your location including drift, or floor live load for the actual occupancy.

Deflection and vibration

The limit the project is designed to. On floors, vibration often governs a long span before deflection does.

Continuity

A panel that runs continuous over an intermediate support reaches meaningfully further than one stopping at each end.

Send us five things and we’ll come back with a depth

  • Grid and support spacing

  • Roof or floor, and the occupancy

  • Location, for snow load

  • Whether the soffit is exposed

  • Any depth or build-up constraint you’re working to

Early-stage sizing is quick and free — most come back the same day. We would rather help you land on the right depth than have you design to a table.

Full span tables are published with our CSA O125 certification, engineer-confirmed on a CSA O86 basis.
