Engrained was founded to bring precision mass timber manufacturing to Canada. Canadian architects and developers were already specifying DLT — but sourcing it from the US or Europe, with long lead times, high freight costs, and limited customisation.

We are building a manufacturing facility in Southern Ontario to change that. Our press is being designed from first principles — tighter dowel spacing, force-verified hydraulic insertion, and a complete production record for every panel — quality verification beyond anything currently available in mass timber.

NOTHING WASTED

The whole tree, working.

A precision line still makes sawdust. Ours is clean, untreated, kiln-dried wood — too good to throw away. The plant is designed so every shaving, chip and offcut has a destination: renewable heat for Ontario greenhouses, bedding for local farms, and in time, the acoustic fibre inside our own panels. The value stays local, and landfill isn’t part of the plan.

One founder built and successfully exited a cloud consultancy and an IT security company — bringing instrumentation, monitoring and end-to-end traceability that construction rarely sees.

The other comes from construction, with years spent studying mass timber — bringing deep structural, material and fabrication expertise in how timber is designed and built.
